Director of Development – Office of Institutional Advancement

Mary Baldwin College, a distinctive small university, located in beautiful Shenandoah Valley in the city of Staunton, VA, seeks a Director of Development. This position will be responsible for securing financial support at the major gift level for the institution’s four colleges and other fundraising priorities. The Director is responsible for developing, enlisting, cultivating, closing and acknowledging gifts of $25,000 and above as well as annual fund gifts of a lesser value.

Candidate requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, masters preferred
  • Minimum of three years direct fundraising experience in major gifts, preferably in higher education
  • A track record in meeting or exceeding annual contact and fundraising goals
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Successful experience in initiating, writing, and developing proposals and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with a thorough understanding of major gift cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven effectiveness in working with volunteers
